Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt, January 26th

Today's theme is old-fashioned. This carriage definitely qualifies for that.
That's my daughter sticking her face out the window. The museum had a "Pioneer Days" celebration in October, and we saw all kinds of old-fashioned outfits, crafts, objects, and techniques that day. There were no horses attached to the carriage, but they do give rides at a Bed and Breakfast in Navasota, TX, now-a-days. It has huge rubber bands that go under the carriage for a more comfortable ride. Nice gentle bounces, I suppose.

This picture is also from that day---and old-fashioned wagon.

I have a throwing-up kids today, so I may not get to visit like I would like to, but please do leave a comment here, and I'll check out your site when I can!

Next week's theme will be narrow. Check out other photo hunters at TNChick!

Friday's Feast, January 25th

This was Jamie's brunch last Saturday---he took this picture. I don't know why!

Appetizer
How many times per day do you usually laugh?
Well, it totally depends on if I am working that day or not. I laugh all the time at work! Yesterday especially because we had Snow Day/Pajama Day. I'll average things out---10 times a day. :-)

Soup
What do your sunglasses look like?
Plastic green with amber-colored lenses. They sure made the fall colors come out in the trees!

Salad
You win a free trip to anywhere on your continent, but you have to travel by train. Where do you go?
I'd like to go to the Grand Canyon on a train, or up to Yellowstone again. I think I'd like to take a train all across the American West, actually---a three week tour.

Main Course
Name one thing you consider a great quality about living in your town/city.
Our town is the perfect size. We have enough shops and businesses to never "have to" go anywhere else to shop, but it's small enough that we don't have terrible traffic or crime or cost of living. Our public school is in the biggest division at the high school level, so we have all the options and special programs that you can imagine. We go to a store and we usually run into someone we know, but people do not know us so well that they know all our business.

Dessert
If the sky could be another color, what color do you think would look best?
Purple

My new album

My band: Fort Wayne Railroad Bridge

My album title: The Objects it Loves

My album cover is to the left (to the left).

I found this fun thing on MomMom's Rant. What I read today was really funny!

Here's how you get your own band and album---
Click here---the title of the article you see is you band's name.

Click here---the last four words of the last quote is your album title.

Click here---the third picture, no matter what it is, is your album cover.

If you get the same thing as me, click refresh on the page you go to, and you'll get a new one. Just for fun! Leave a comment with your band's name, I'd love to know what they are.

My Six Non-important Things

I got tagged on my "other" blog (Project 363) for this meme about ME! Mrs4444 tagged me and I'm playing along!

THE "RULES":
Link to the person who tagged you.
Post the rules on your blog.
Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.
Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.
Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.

In no particular order, My Six Non-important Things/Habits/Quirks

1. I love to get my candy in some kind of color order before I eat it. I do this with Smarties candy especially. I stack those up in color order---white, pink, orange, yellow, green, purple---and then I keep making stacks of the candy with whatever colors are left out (I know this isn't making any sense), until I get to the last few. I'll eat the short stacks first (the ones that are missing colors) and leave the complete stacks last. Weird, I know.

2. I graduated #6 in my class of 250.

3. I can still remember the phone number my grandparents had when I was little.

4. My hair has never been dyed.

5. I really really like to go to conferences! (Crazy, I know!) I got to go to a pre-school teacher's conference on Saturday.

6. I have just let the kids get some fish, although when I had fish when I lived in the dorm, I was getting nightmares about fish with underbites. So now, the kids (or Larry---if he remembers this, and now he will because I blogged about it), will tease me with their jaws sticking out going up and down like they're going to bite me. I'm not afraid in the daylight! But now I wonder if the dreams might return. Actually, last night I dreamed about rats and mice in the house---ug! Not really happening, thank goodness. I was especially embarrassed in the dream because my Granny was there, and I didn't want her to see them or get scared. More weirdness!

Okay, now I am supposed to tag 6 people! I will, but only do it if you want to! Visit these sites because they are fun and I visit them. That's not random, though, is it? Whatever!

Stacy at Exceedingly Mundane

Desert Songbird at The Ice Box

Arizaphale at Now Where Did I Put the Flaming Sword?

Sarah at Sarah Station

I should tag more, but I need to get up and do something on this holiday at home. :-)

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt, January 19th

It's still Saturday where I am! ;-)
This was really important to B! Important is the word of the week.
This is the first day of Girl Scout Cookie sales. She is so excited! Actually, now that I'm home this evening, B sold 20 boxes of cookies in the neighborhood on this first day. It's important to her troop, because this is how they raise money for the activities they do and supplies they need. This year, they might go to a museum in Houston or they might go to Dinosaur Valley State Park. Last year they raised enough money to go to a zoo and have a sleepover! That was awesome, and with all the extra behind-the-scenes stuff we saw and did, it was very educational. We slept right by the aquarium!

Anyway, check out more Hunters at TNChick. next week's theme is old-fashioned. Aha! I just thought of the perfect picture! ;-) Come back next week and see it.

Thanks for your comments!

Friday's Feast, January 18th

This was someone's lunch this week n my pre-school classroom. It was so pretty, I took a picture!

Appetizer
What is your favorite beverage?

Coca-Cola!

Soup
Name 3 things that are on your computer desk at home or work.
A Highlights amgazine 2008 calendar (with Hidden Pictures!)

A glasses case with pens in it (this is B's doing)

Two page-a-day calendars---both X-mas gifts!

Salad
On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being highest), how honest do you think you are?

Maybe a 7, maybe a 9. I should have said 8!!

Main Course
If you could change the name of one city in the world, what would you rename it and why?

I don't know what this means!! I'll get back to you . . .

Dessert
What stresses you out? What calms you down?

I am stressed out when I am trying to get the kids out the door in the mornings as well as myself or Larry. I am stressed out because I am rushing rushing rushing and the kids don't seem to understand there's a time limit here, and we have to be places on time. There's too much playing before everything is ready.

De-stressors: A shower, a meal, a quiet moment alone, taking a deep breath, time away from home or going home! ;-)

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt, January 12th

Today's theme was skinny. I thought right away I needed to go back to high school---or my honeymoon! My weight has all gone uphill from there.
Both my sister and I were skinny in the 1980s (1988 to be exact). This shows how skinny both my husband and I were in 1991. It's not the best shot of skinny, so just take my word for it. We were on a 3 week honeymoon from Granbury, TX, all the way to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, and then onto Toronto for a day was well. This is probably during the third day of driving. We were stopping at all the state borders to get a picture of ourselves. Quite a trip!

Next week's theme is important. If you're interested in seeing other hunters' interpretations of the theme, go over to TNChick's site.
Thanks for all your comments! I appreciate them.
Have a Happy weekend!

Dishwasher

Okay, here it is! As you can see it's still pulled out in the kitchen, with its insulation all around the top and sides. I went with white, since my cabinets are white and I like them white. When we moved in, we bought a white refrigerator. I know it's not the "in" thing to get white appliances, but I didn't really want black in this kitchen, and the stainless steel was another $50. This machine replaces a dishwasher of unknown age. It was black, but it had push buttons on it, like big square buttons like the ones on my parents' 1988? dishwasher, way back when. I think this one has a lot of cool features, including a "sanitize" feature.

Now about getting it actually installed . . . Larry thought after disconnecting the old one that he could just install the new one this morning, but after realizing we would have to wire on the electrical plug, maybe not! Why can you plug in a refrigerator or microwave, but a dishwasher has a plug you have to wire onto it? All the ones we were looking at were this way!

Anyway, it's still a happy day, but it'll be really great when I am using it! :-)

Friday's Feast, January 11th

I made this cake for J's birthday back in 2002, which made this his 7th birthday. I had to draw a template myself for the batman emblem. ;-) Both kids had a cape that Mom made for them---J a Batman cape, and B had a Batgirl cape in purple. Good Memories!

Appetizer
What is your middle name?
Would you change any of your names if you could?
If so, what would you like to be called?
I'm fine with my names. My middle name is Elizabeth. Standard and classic.

Soup
If you were a fashion designer, which fabrics, colors, and styles would you probably use the most?
I'd probably use a lot of blue, since I was always told I looked good in blue because of my eyes. But also because blue looks good on a lot of people, too. I would make clothes that fit in with my lifestyle---casual. Also clothes that are easily washed and you can sit on the floor in them (I'm on the floor at preschool all day!).

Salad
What is your least favorite chore, and why?
Hmmm . . . I don't do a lot of dusting, so that's probably it. I hate having to move everything around to get to the dust.

I have the kids on a new chores plan---they pick a chore to do every day (although this week they were so busy I didn't make them do one on some days), and then on weekends, I pick one and they pick one per day. I made a list.
On second thought, right now, I hate laundry. Hate it!!! it's cold in the garage where the washer and dryer are, and the dryer is still not in place, so "drying the clothes" is hanging them up and then waiting for them to dry.

I do think I am going ot like loading the dishwasher starting today! The guy should deliver it any minute.

Main Course
What is something that really frightens you, and can you trace it back to an event in your life?
I can't think of anything in particular.

Dessert
Where are you sitting right now? Name 3 things you can see at this moment.
I'm sitting in the living room (at the computer, of course). I can see the TV (Lar is home with me today, and he's got on the movie The Last Sin Eater.) I can see the front windows of my house, and if the blinds and curtains were opened, I could see the street. I can also see my dining area, and the sliding glass door to the back yard. It's dirty!

Monday Mutterings

I'm resolving to get back in the blogging habit! I thought being on Christmas break would get me more time to write, but alas, no.

Today I went back to work and B and J went back to school. While Larry didn't get any days off this break except Christmas Day and New Year's day, we had a full 2 weeks of holidays. I much prefer to have more days before Christmas than after, but the kids got out this year on Dec. 21st! There wasn't enough time to do all the fun things I had hoped this year before the excitement of Christmas was over. Oh well!

We did get to go to U Paint It last Thursday. That was so fun even though J and I got done a half hour before B. She likes to take her time!!! She painted a mermaid, J painted a mug and I did a bowl. The store fires them and glazes them and we should get a call sometime soon about them being ready. I'll take pictures then!

Yesterday after church, we bought our new dishwasher. They had to bring it from out of town, so the delivery is Friday, which is my normal day off and convenient for me. I can't wait!! I'll have pictures of that, too. :-) I went with white, and I think it has enough features to make us all happy.

Hope your New Year is starting off well!

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt, January 5th

Today's theme is delicious. I always think of warm cheesy casseroles when I think delicious. Or maybe something with garlic and herbs. But always warm. Delicious implies warmth to me.

Here's my addition to the delicious theme. It's Sausage Casserole, a standard from my childhood and now for my family. I posted the recipe (and probably this picture!) before. Can you see the little spoon rest in the background? It as a gift form one of my pre-school students at least 5 years ago. I bet she never thought her gift would get so much use or attention. But I do continually use tht spoonrest with "Bless this House" painted on it.

Next week's theme is skinny. I am thinking I should dredge up the ol' photos of Larry and me from high school. Those were the days of skinny, long gone now. Thank you for the comments!
