Best Shot Monday---sleeping beauty

I love this shot of B. She had been watching TV in my bedroom one afternoon, and just fell asleep. There had been a sleepover and she needed a few extra Zzzzs.

Best Shot Monday---Baby

I didn't take a lot of pictures this week, but I sat across from this baby and her Mommy at my training on Saturday. I won't give you her full name to protect her privacy, but she is Avery Lorraine. So sweet! She's about 2 months old.

Best Shot Monday----My Kids

I have been in somewhat of a picture-taking slump as of late! Even so, I think this one is worth a post of its own. We were up at the softball fields where Daddy was keeping score for the tournament, and the kids were just being a little goofy! Their expressions seem to be really "them" and even their shirt colors seemed appealing to me. Isn't J looking older and older like day-to-day?

Best (series of) Shot(s), Monday

This series of shots is my attempt to show B doing her shot put. Larry and B went to practice---we met him after work one evening. You can tell it was a day that we got some rain. My camera has a feature where it will take a series of three shots in like a second and a half. It's cool! This was at the beginning of the practice, so it might not have been the best throw, per se, but it was my best shots.

Can you see my shadow in this shot? Heehee! I love this series because the shot is in the air on this one. I'll be posting this weekend about the State Tournament, and how B did. No matter what, it will be fun---we had a friend offer a hotel room in Austin (with his points), so we are going to tour Austin a bit. B even suggested we hit a few county courthouses as we drive over (she knows me well). Just us and our girl! it'll be great. I'm looking forward to it. :-)

Best Shot Monday----Hood County Courthouse

This is my Best shot of the Week, I think!

I have a lot of pictures of this courthouse in the daytime, but nary a one at dusk. It's my hometown courthouse, so I've been hanging around the square around the courthouse since 1982. I like the complimentary colors of the orange and the blue.

I was with the kids on the 4th in Granbury, so here are some more sights we saw:

The Fourth of July Parade

In the evening, we went down to the square and watched Poppa's band play a concert. His band plays Big Band music.

There was a rain storm that came through in the evening. The sky looked scary, as you can see in a couple of pictures here. But it didn't rain on top of us very much, so the concert went on.

Here are the guys playing their instruments.

And then there were fireworks. We stayed downtown and watched from the place where the concert was. I was playing around with the "fireworks" setting on my camera.

This last one was the finale!

Happy Birthday, America!

Best Shot Monday----Outfit

I posted this on my photo blog---Project 363---already, but I think it was the best shot of the week. Natural light at the front door, wardrobe by B herself. My necklace, B's hat, hand-me-down shirt, side ponytail on the right.

My little girl is growing up and appearance matters to her. I know those distresses of the teen years are coming to her. My hair won't do right! I don't have anything cool to wear! My face is breaking out! What will everyone think if I wear this? Ug. It's a time of great internal angst. I hope she will work with what natural gifts she has, and not be too self critical (like I was). And I hope she will not be too critical of others.

Best Shot Monday----Sisters

The only bad thing about Best Shot Monday is, I usualy share my best shots of the week on my other blog! I actually am most fond of this picture, of one of my daughter's friends and her two month old baby sister, at the track meet Thursday. So this is truly my best shot.

But . . . I am fond of these also! These are more of my artsy shots---taken for the sake of form, and not to document my own family's life. Does that make sense? Art!

I took this first one at track practice. I was trying to take a picture of the sun. Maybe I'm the only one fascinated by clouds, though.

This next one is also at the track. It's the lines I like about this. I had been walking around this track for two weeks before I took the camera up there and took this picture I had been planning.

The last one should be entitled "Effort". I think of all the shots at the meet this week, this one really shows the effort these kids are putting forth in their running.

Best Shot Monday----Girls

This was my favorite shot of the week. What I like about it is that although they were back lit, I used a flash to make their faces show up better. And knowing these girls, I can see these are genuine smiles---not forced looking! They will only be eight once, and this captures their little 8-year-old faces really well.

My daughter is in the middle, and these girls are from her softball team. They were at the Closing Ceremonies for the season, but are on the All-Star team, so they will play until they are eliminated this week. This is the first year they've done the all-stars for her age group, and it's a very last minute tournament. They are proud to be wearing their new all-star hats, and they'll get their t-shirts tonight.

My Oops---Best Shot Tuesday!

I forgot completely to post a picture yesterday for Best Shot Monday! So here's one of the ones I liked this week.
Feet are such an education in genetics!
My feet are definitely like my dad's and my grandmother's. But they are evolved, taking on traits of my mom's feet, too. So here are my daughter's feet, one more generation removed, carring those traits of Larry's feet, too.
The more you look at feet, the weirder they look, huh?

We Oughta Be in Pictures . . .

It's summertime, and I'm playing along with Tracey C. at Picture This. She has been doing her "Best Shot Mondays" for a while, and I haven't played along. I am going to give you a shot---my favorite of the week---every Monday. This week it's a little sad, but I like it.

This was after a losing game, and I think her emotion is written all over her face. Or maybe my Mommy radar is detecting it because I know her well! Look at those eyebrows!

Also, Tracey is hosting a theme picture day, and this week it's "spin." Thursdays I'll try to post a picture in her Thursday Theme. This is along with what I am already doing----Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt, hosted by TNChick. AND you know, I have a photo blog, one picture a day, at Project 363. It's really a slice of my life. I'm already almost halfway through the year!
