slice of my life

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt, January 10th

This week's theme is aftermath. Besides my first thought about the aftermath of our flooded house (I am so ready to forget about that), and the aftermath of the most recent hurricane (which I don't have pictures of anyway), I thought about the aftermath of the forest fire in Yellowstone. The fire was in 1992 and I visited in 1993.

Here's my shot of the aftermath:
By this point, the underbrush was beginning to grow and the ground was all nice and green. The burned tree trunks were still standing in place. And the good news is, because the trees were not there, and we had some more spectacular views. In the aftermath, the earth benefited, I am told. I wonder if these wildfires are nature's way of replenishing the earth and have been going on for all of time.
For more aftermath pictures or to join in yourself, go to TNChick's website. Next week's theme is hat(s). Come back and see what I find!

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt, August 30th

Today's theme is Beautiful. This part of the country was one of the most beautiful areas I've ever visited. And maybe it was my youth when I was there, my grandiose idealism,---something---that made me just soak it in and remember it. There is something so majestic about big mountains and big sky.

This is Jenny Lake, WY, with the Tetons in the background. It's beautiful! And you can't even tell how beautiful unless you're there. This picture can't even capture it. I took this in 1994 when I was just 23. Those were the days! ;-)

If you'd like to see more beautiful images, click over to TNChick's website. What a good day to go browsing!

Next week is string or strings. That's interesting!

Happy Birthday Larry! (Today's the day!!)

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt, June 21st

This week's theme is water. I have several water images from trips I've been on.
This first one is me and my family at Lake Michigan, circa 2006. This water was very cold, my children told me. That's my family on the left, and my aunt and dad on the right. We're in Michigan when this was taken.
This is the coast of Texas, South Padre Island. I have very fond memories of this trip playing in the water with my friends/workmates at a training conference.
This is MY water----Lake Jenny in Wyoming. It was unbelievably beautiful up there, very different from the landscape where I live. Also from 2006.This is Old Faithful, a geyser of water. The people in these two photos were with me on a high school mission trip to Dubois, Wyoming. I went as a chaperon in 1994---I was 23, a newlywed, and not a mother yet. One of my favorite memories form that trip was watching that water shoot up in the air, right on schedule, while I sipped hot cocoa on the inn's deck that evening. This last one is also In Yellowstone Park, WY, as the last one was. We were standing at an observation deck watching the power of water as it fell over a waterfall. This picture is looking down the river, and the landscape and rainbow make everything look like a fairytale. I hope to go back and see all these things again someday, taking my family with me.

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt, February 2nd

This week's theme is Narrow. A Bible verse came to mind first:
Matthew 7:13-14
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Here is my narrow gateway.

This is a scanned in picture from the summer of 2005. We went to Hollnad, MI, for my cousin's wedding, and one morning we took a walk to Lake Michigan. This is the narrow passageway under the sand dunes to the lake.

It's a lot different than the sand dunes I know on the Texas coast! ;-) We loved being there and having a good time.

Next week's theme is heavy. Too bad I don't have a brother. You know the old song . . . "He ain't heavy, he's my brother . . ."
